Dubuque's Millwork District is an eight-block complex of 19th-century brick warehouse and factory buildings along the Mississippi River—the largest intact concentration of historic millwork architecture in the United States. The Iowa Film Office promotes the district for its massive interior volumes: timber-post and heavy-beam construction, original wooden floors, clerestory windows with river light, and raw brick walls that provide a neutral industrial backdrop adaptable to period or contemporary production. The Mississippi riverfront setting adds exterior options with genuine 19th-century commercial waterfront character. The district's redevelopment has preserved the architectural shells while upgrading electrical infrastructure, making it one of Iowa's most production-friendly historic locations.
