Gulf Islands National Seashore protects some of the most stunning stretches of shoreline on the Gulf of Mexico — sugar-white quartz sand beaches and emerald-clear shallow water in the Florida Panhandle and Mississippi Gulf Coast. The seashore is divided into Florida and Mississippi districts, each with distinct character. The Florida section, near Pensacola, features historic Fort Pickens — a massive 1834 masonry fortification on Santa Rosa Island with sweeping Gulf and bay views.
