The Skowhegan State Fair is the oldest continuously operating state fair in the United States, established in 1818. The fairground in central Maine carries over two centuries of agricultural heritage — the oxen pull is a signature event unlike anything in American fairground culture. The campus includes the grandstand, livestock barns, exhibition buildings, and midway on the Kennebec River's north bank in the heart of Maine's working-class interior.
