“Layered cliffs descending in color bands from pink to white to gray, slot canyon labyrinths, the Escalante River corridor. One of the last explored places in the contiguous US — zero infrastructure.”
About This Location
Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in southern Utah is one of America's most remote and visually spectacular BLM-managed landscapes. Its namesake geological staircase descends through dramatically colored cliff bands — the Chocolate Cliffs, Vermilion Cliffs, White Cliffs, Gray Cliffs, and Pink Cliffs — creating natural movie sets of unmatched scale. The Escalante River canyon system offers intimate slot canyon passages, natural bridges, and ancient ruins. Coyote Gulch, Peekaboo Canyon, and the Zebra Slot provide incredible camera angles. The monument is managed by the BLM Kanab, Escalante, and Cannonville field offices. Commercial filming requires a BLM Special Recreation Permit. This location demands fully self-sufficient crews — no power, no services, minimal access roads. For filmmakers willing to work in true wilderness conditions, the visual payoff is exceptional.
