About
Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is one of the most underutilized film resources in the southeastern United States — a 48-mile protected river corridor running through the heart of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The NRA preserves forested riverbanks, river rapids, and historic mill sites along the Chattahoochee within a major film production hub. Atlanta's booming production infrastructure (driven by Georgia's generous tax credit) is minutes from multiple NRA units. For indie filmmakers, this means access to genuine wilderness river aesthetics — dense southern hardwood forest, rushing water, moss-covered boulders — without leaving the metro area. The park's 15 distinct units offer a range of settings from accessible riverside trails to more remote forest sections. NPS commercial filming permits required.
