Frederick's 50-block historic district is among the largest and best-preserved on the entire East Coast—a Baroque street plan laid out in 1745, with Federal, Georgian, and Victorian commercial architecture layered across a Catoctin Mountain piedmont setting that can read as anything from 18th-century New England to 19th-century Mid-Atlantic. The Maryland Film Office promotes Frederick for its combination of authentic colonial and Civil War era atmosphere with exceptional production infrastructure proximity to the Washington-Baltimore corridor. Carroll Creek Park—a landscaped linear waterway threading the historic core—adds a distinctive visual element unusual in an inland historic district. The entire downtown area has a trained film liaison and an established permit process refined through years of production activity.
