“3,300-foot historic pier on Lake Michigan — Festival Hall, Crystal Gardens (indoor tropical garden), grand ballroom, the Ferris wheel silhouetted against the lake, and the Chicago skyline as an ever-present backdrop”
About
Navy Pier is one of the most iconic waterfront structures in America — a 3,300-foot pier extending into Lake Michigan that feels simultaneously monumental and intimate. The 1916 warehouse-era structure has been transformed into a public entertainment campus while retaining its dramatic industrial bones. The Grand Ballroom is a massive barrel-vaulted hall with arched windows overlooking the lake. The Crystal Gardens is a six-story enclosed tropical garden under glass. The Ferris wheel, beer garden, and festival plazas face the lake with the Chicago skyline rising directly behind — one of the most recognizable establishing-shot compositions in Midwestern film. Illinois's 30% film tax credit and Chicago's deep production infrastructure make this a practical as well as spectacular location. Film and event permits run through the Navy Pier events department.
