“Georgia-Alabama border Corps lake on the Chattahoochee; historic Fort Gaines antebellum town; warm Coastal Plains pine forest; Spanish moss and cypress”
About This Location
Fort Laramie National Historic Site near Fort Laramie, Wyoming preserves the best-surviving Oregon Trail military post—22 original and reconstructed 1849–1890 period buildings including officers' quarters, cavalry barracks, guardhouse, and the original sutler's store on the North Platte River. The extraordinary structural integrity of this remote Wyoming fort, combined with the sweeping treeless plains horizon, creates the most authentic large-scale Oregon Trail-era military frontier environment in America. Both interior and extensive exterior filming available with NPS authorization. The vast Wyoming plains landscape extending to the horizon in every direction provides dramatic visual context for Manifest Destiny-era, Oregon Trail, and Indian Wars period productions. A premier Wyoming film location for American West storytelling. Filming permits available through Fort Laramie NHS Superintendent. NPS Special Use Permit required; remote southeastern Wyoming location requires advance logistics planning including generator power.
