Visual character

Massive Precambrian granite outcroppings 8,000 feet above sea level — rounded, sculpted formations against Wyoming's immense sky. A world-class rock climbing area with visual drama that translates directly to screen. The Vedauwoo word means 'earth-born spirits.'

About

Vicksburg National Military Park in Vicksburg, Mississippi preserves the site of the 47-day siege that split the Confederacy—16 miles of earthworks, over 1,340 monuments, and the reconstructed USS Cairo ironclad gunboat arranged dramatically above the Mississippi River. The park's extraordinary visual resources include antebellum manor ruins, Union and Confederate fortifications, the river overlook, and the Cairo's remarkably preserved Civil War naval artifacts—all within the context of Vicksburg's rolling Mississippi bluff landscape. Both interior museum and extensive exterior battlefield filming available with NPS authorization. The combination of land and naval Civil War history on a single site creates exceptional visual storytelling resources for documentary and period drama. A premier Mississippi film location for Civil War-era production. Filming permits available through Vicksburg NMP Superintendent. NPS Special Use Permit required; extended multi-day permit options available.
