Trinidad occupies a dramatic natural theater at the foot of Fisher's Peak—a mesa that rises like a stage flat behind a Victorian downtown that looks more like southern Colorado's territorial past than anything filmed since. A Film Friendly Colorado community promoted by the Colorado Film Office, Trinidad offers an extraordinary intact collection of Italianate and Victorian commercial storefronts alongside the historic Corazon de Trinidad neighborhood of Spanish Colonial adobes. The contrast between Anglo commercial and Hispanic residential architecture within a single walkable district gives productions two distinct period aesthetics within blocks of each other. The Purgatoire River adds a natural element, and the surrounding Raton Pass landscape provides access to genuine high-desert Western settings.
