“Prairie Gothic, Historic, Authentic West”
About This Location
Pawhuska is the capital of the Osage Nation and the setting for one of 2023's most acclaimed films: Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon, which used the town's early 20th-century main street and surrounding Osage Hills landscape to devastating effect. The Oklahoma Film & Music Office promotes Pawhuska as a Film Friendly community, and the Osage Nation has developed formal protocols for film productions working on Osage land. Downtown Pawhuska retains its 1920s commercial architecture largely intact—two-story brick storefronts, a grand theater, and wide streets that read as period-authentic with minimal dressing. The surrounding tallgrass prairie and Osage Hills add a geographical drama unique in American cinema.
