“Red sandstone canyons, towering mesas, the Colorado River, and iconic arches backdrops — one of the most film-used landscapes on earth. From off-road desert flats to dramatic canyon walls.”
About This Location
The Moab BLM field office manages some of the most filmed terrain on the planet — sweeping red canyon country in Grand County, Utah. Locations include Professor Valley, Sand Flats Recreation Area, and surrounding mesa lands. Think John Ford-era Westerns but with modern production flexibility. Towering red rock walls frame every shot naturally. The Colorado River winds through the frame, giving you drama without set dressing. Crew vehicles can access many areas via maintained dirt roads, and established pullouts work for small-to-medium productions. Commercial filming requires a BLM Special Recreation Permit. Contact the Moab Field Office directly for a location-specific cost estimate. Lead time of 10–30 business days is standard. Insurance and bond required. One of the most indie-filmmaker-friendly federal land offices in the country.
