About
Newport's Bellevue Avenue is the most concentrated assemblage of Gilded Age architectural excess in the United States—a single oceanfront boulevard where the Vanderbilts, Astors, and Belmonts erected competing monuments to Beaux-Arts grandeur that continue to dwarf anything built since. The Rhode Island Film Office promotes the Breakers, Marble House, Rosecliff, and the broader Bellevue Avenue corridor as filming destinations with well-established protocols through the Preservation Society. The Cliff Walk provides a public coastal path connecting the mansion district to Newport's historic harbor, while the harbor itself—still an active sailing center—provides contemporary maritime context. Multiple major Hollywood productions have used Newport's Gilded Age architecture as a stand-in for European palaces and American wealth at its most theatrical.
